About Streets of Your Town Art

‎About me photos

Hi, I'm Melbee, the artist behind Streets of Your Town Art, based in the beautiful little town of Babinda in tropical Far North Queensland.

I've been obsessed with houses, buildings, interiors, caravans and neighbourhoods for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was convinced I was going to become an architect—until I discovered just how much maths was involved! So instead of designing buildings, I decided to paint and draw them.

I’m fascinated by the stories that places hold. Homes, businesses, holiday shacks, caravans and favourite local landmarks all carry memories, personality and a sense of belonging. Through my artwork, I aim to capture not just what a place looks like, but how it feels.

Living in the tropics provides endless inspiration.  Far North Queensland is home to some incredible architecture, from classic Queenslanders and charming Art Deco buildings to the unique influences brought by generations of migrant communities. The result is a wonderfully colourful and eclectic mix of styles that I never tire of exploring. My work reflects that love of colour, character and individuality, celebrating the personality of every home, building or caravan I paint.

Many of my pieces are also inspired by childhood memories, family holidays and the many places I've lived throughout my life—from bustling cities and suburban streets to small country towns. I think that's why people connect so strongly with my artwork; it's often as much about memories as it is about buildings.

While house portraits are my specialty, I also create commissions of businesses and workplaces. Whether it's a beloved café, bakery, pub, butcher shop or family business, these pieces make meaningful retirement gifts, staff appreciation gifts, "best boss" presents, or simply a wonderful way to celebrate a business you're proud of.

I work from photographs, along with reference material such as Google Maps and real estate listings, which means I can create commissions for clients anywhere in Australia—and around the world. The process is simple and enjoyable, and I'll guide you through every step to create a piece that is uniquely yours.

If you're interested in commissioning a portrait of a special place, or if you'd simply like to chat about the possibilities, I'd love to hear from you.
